Lancet Clubtail (Gomphus exilis)

Identification: Male has yellow thorax with two fused brown lateral thoracic stripes, two brown shoulder stripes and two mid-dorsal stripes. The abdomen is brown and slightly clubbed at S8, S9 and dorsally has a decreasing yellow stripe until S8 and then S9 has a larger stripe and S10 is marked with yellow. S8 and S9 (the minimal club) are also marked laterally with yellow.

The female is marked very similar to the male but is without club and the abdomen is marked heavier dorsally with yellow running the segments. There is also considerable yellow laterally decreasing in amount on the S2-S7 but again demonstrating itself on S8 and even more so on S9.

The adults both have blue-gray eyes.
